Kevin Durant to Miss Game 1 Against Lakers Due to Knee Injury

The Houston Rockets will begin their playoff campaign without their biggest star, as Kevin Durant has been ruled out of Game 1 against the Los Angeles Lakers due to a knee issue.

Injury Details and Latest Update

According to head coach Ime Udoka, Durant suffered the injury during a practice session earlier in the week. The forward reportedly bumped his knee in an awkward spot, leading to discomfort and limited movement.

Although medical scans showed no structural damage, the pain and stiffness around the knee—particularly near the patellar tendon—have made it difficult for Durant to move freely. After testing it shortly before the game, he was unable to get cleared to play.

Udoka expressed hope that the injury is minor and that Durant could return as early as Game 2.

Durant’s Importance to Houston

Durant has been a crucial figure for Houston this season, leading the team in scoring with an average of 26 points per game. He also contributed with rebounds and assists, making him the focal point of the Rockets’ offense.

His absence is a major blow, especially with the playoffs just getting underway. This marks a delayed start for Durant, who is looking for his first postseason win since 2023.

Rockets Adjust Lineup

With Durant sidelined, the Rockets are expected to rely on a younger lineup featuring:

  • Alperen Şengün
  • Amen Thompson
  • Jabari Smith Jr.
  • Reed Sheppard
  • Josh Okogie

Coach Udoka emphasized confidence in his squad, noting that the team has rotated multiple players throughout the season and is prepared to adapt.

Lakers Also Facing Injury Problems

The Lakers are not at full strength either. Luka Dončić is unavailable due to a hamstring strain, while Austin Reaves is sidelined with an oblique injury.

Despite these setbacks, LeBron James is expected to lead Los Angeles, especially with the advantage of playing at home.

What This Means for Game 1

With both teams missing key players, Game 1 becomes far less predictable. While the Rockets finished the regular season strongly to secure a playoff spot, losing Durant reduces their offensive firepower significantly.

On the other side, the Lakers will look to capitalize on their home court and experience, even with a depleted roster.

Looking Ahead

Game 2 is scheduled shortly after, giving Durant a few extra days to recover. If his injury proves to be minor, Houston could regain its star quickly and shift momentum in the series.

For now, all eyes will be on how both teams handle adversity in what promises to be a closely contested playoff opener.
